Sporting Khalsa 2-1 Albion Women

Ellie May in action for Albion Women in the home kit

Albion Women were defeated on the road against Sporting Khalsa on Sunday afternoon.

The Baggies took the lead within 60 seconds through Ellie May, but were undone by two strikes from the hosts before the interval.

Head coach Siobhan Hodgetts-Still made a single change as Taylor Reynolds replaced the absent Ash Brown at right-back. Latest recruit, goalkeeper Lavarna Johnson, made the matchday squad for the first time.

The visitors made a roaring start to the FAWNL Northern Premier encounter. Ali Miller burst in-behind the Khalsa defence before seeing her effort clatter off the woodwork and into the path of May, who dispatched the follow-up to open up an advantage.

It was a short-lived advantage though, as Izzy Green was adjudged to have handled the ball inside the Albion penalty area. Laura Smith stepped up to convert the resulting spot-kick.

Khalsa then put themselves in the ascendancy prior to half-time. A curling effort from Smith sailed into the top corner, leaving Anna Miller with no chance.

The Baggies made strides to get back into the game late on, but efforts from Hannah George and Maddie Oliver couldn’t beat goalkeeper Elise Stocking in the hosts’ goal.

Albion are next in action on Wednesday, February 12, when they travel to Stourbridge.

Albion: Miller; Reynolds (Oliver 70’), Green, George, Haughey; Watkins (Evans 74’), Rabjohn; Mahmood (Rhodes 46’), Warner (Jhamat 74’), May; Miller.

Substitutes: Johnson, Whittick.
