Taylor Gardner-Hickman says Albion delivered a really hardworking performance against Sheffield United at The Hawthorns on Thursday night in the Carabao Cup.
Albion booked their spot in round two of the competition thanks to Karlan Grant’s second-half header in front of the Brummie Road End.
Gardner-Hickman, who was handed his first start of the season at right-back, says there were plenty of impressive displays all over the pitch and believes his side look really fit after an intense pre-season.
Taylor said: “I enjoyed being back out there again. I’ve missed not playing and I’d love to play more regularly but I know I have to work hard.
“I thought it was a good performance and a good result.
“Both teams had their chances but thankfully we managed to put one of ours away and now we’re in the next round.
“I thought the lads did really well considering we haven’t all played together before.
“On a personal level I felt really good. Pre-season has definitely helped me. The gaffer put us all through our paces and I think you can see that we all look really fit at the moment.
“I just tried my best as always and I gave maximum effort as always. I tried to get on the ball and try and make things happen and drive us forward.
“Hopefully I’ve done enough to get in the gaffer’s plans.
“The clash with Derby in round two should be a really good game and we’ll all be looking forward to it now.”
