Taylor Gardner-Hickman insists he and his team-mates have points to prove in Tuesday night’s Emirates FA Cup third-round replay against Chesterfield (ko 8pm).
The Baggies were moments away from being knocked out of the competition by the Vanarama National League outfit in the initial tie, needing a last-gasp Brandon Thomas-Asante equaliser to force a 3-3 draw and a replay back at The Hawthorns.
Carlos Corberán handed a whole new 11 the opportunity to impress at the Technique Stadium on Saturday, January 7, but his side delivered a performance which was below their capabilities.
And Gardner-Hickman, who started at right-back in Derbyshire, says Albion are expecting another tricky test from the Spireites, but stressed the importance of controlling the flow of the game.
Taylor said: “We’re definitely not taking Chesterfield lightly. We saw how dangerous they can be in the first game and they gave us a real scare.
“We all know that it will be another difficult test against a side who will desperately want to beat us.
“We can’t sit back and let them try and take control of the game like they were able to do at their stadium last week.
“We showed great character to get back into the game and score an injury-time leveller up there to force a replay. Hopefully we can get the job done at The Hawthorns on Tuesday night with home advantage on our side.
“We’re a much better team than what we showed at Chesterfield and it’s up to us to go out there and prove it.
“All the lads know that we weren’t good enough. We’ve all got points to prove and everyone wants to be playing in this side.
“Any opportunity is a good opportunity to impress the manager. It doesn’t matter whether that’s in the league or in the cup competitions.
“You always want to do your best and put something in the manager’s mind.
“We all want to go on a cup run this year. We’ve got a really good squad and I think we have the capability to do that.”
