Tony Mowbray offers thoughts on Hull City draw

Albion head coach Tony Mowbray insists he is confident his team can achieve their targets this season despite Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Hull City.

Isaac Price’s first goal in navy-blue-and-white was cancelled out by Abu Kamara’s 79th-minute effort - preventing the hosts from claiming seven points from their three-game week.

Instead, it was just the five points the Baggies accumulated from their recent fixtures and although the boss was “disappointed” with this weekend’s result, he is determined to help his squad find solutions to ensure they remain in the top six come the end of the campaign.

He said: “There were spells where we were good, and things we still need to get better at.

“The percentage of shots on target that we have has not been enough since the day I arrived.

“We’re lucky if we get 20 per cent of our shots on target, but it’s a pretty common thing that we need to keep working hard on in the final third.

“Picking the right pass, making the right run and more end product in and around the opposition box.

“We’re left a bit flat and disappointed, obviously, and dropping two points at home is not what we needed. Three points today would’ve made the Burnley point seem like a really good one, but two points from two games isn’t enough.

“It keeps us in the top six but we need to start trying to create a bit of a gap, but we’re disappointed with just the one point from the game.

“It can be difficult during these three-game weeks because you need to get your shape organised, and we’ve had to make changes in the team through personnel because of suspension and injury.

“It’s not always easy to focus on the stuff you want to do because you can’t keep training hour after hour with three games in a week.

“We’re confident we can get into the top six. We’ve got to keep going, keep grinding out results and finding a way.

“There’s going to be some good days along the road, and there’s going to be some frustrating days along the road.

“With eight games to go, let’s hope we have more good days than bad days, keep accruing points and come the final day, get ourselves in a position where we need to beat Luton to make sure we’re in the top six.”
