Tony Mowbray believes Albion deserved to beat Plymouth Argyle at Home Park on Saturday afternoon but says his side must take defeat "on the chin" and "move on".

The Baggies went ahead inside the final 20 minutes when Jayson Molumby slid in to convert from close range.

However, the Pilgrims were then awarded a penalty almost instantly - Callum Styles adjudged to have handled the ball inside the box.

It was a decision Mowbray didn't agree with, and Ryan Hardie converted the spot-kick. The same player found the bottom corner during the closing stages to steal all three points for the hosts.

Despite not sharing the same opinion as the officials on the spot-kick, the boss also insists the players should have defended both goals much better.

Tony said: "I thought our performance was ok. We had a lot of dominance and a lot of the ball, but not enough efforts at goal.

"We spoke at half-time about the need for more end product, which is what we’ve spoken about since I walked in the door really.

"I didn’t really feel like they were a threat. I thought we dealt with them really well. They hit a lot of long balls and you’ve then got to clear the ball from out of your box.

"I think they were given a leg-up by a pretty poor decision from what I’ve seen. I’ve only seen it once on a laptop. I’m sure there are people out there who will see why it was given as a penalty, but for me, the player is so close to where the ball was struck from. I’m not sure what the referee wants him to do.

"Whether it hit his hand or not, I’m not sure where the referee wants him to put his hand. I’m not sure what he’s meant to do and I’m not sure how that’s deliberate handball in the box.

"I feel as if they were given a leg up, and then from being at 1-1, we found a way to lose the game.

"Credit to them. They kept digging away and they kept going. I thought we put a lot of effort into today’s game and to get our noses in front against a team who were very defensively structured. We eventually found a way through but we’ve left with nothing.

"We’re disappointed and frustrated. We’re disappointed for the fans who travelled down to support us.

"I’m not sure if Ryan Hardie was offside for the second. Again, I’ve only seen it back once on a laptop very quickly. I don’t want to stand here and blame the officials for both goals because we should have defended better.

"I’ve been in many situations where you don’t get what you deserve in a football match and you have to accept it. We have to take it on the chin and move on.

"How we didn’t win that game, I don’t know to be honest. If we play like that every week, we’ll win lots of football matches I think. There was plenty of good things today and we can’t put all that in the bin.

"We came here to win and it looked like we might win, but then it all got taken away from us in that last 15 minutes. We’re really disappointed about that."
