Tony Mowbray | We weren't good enough at Coventry

Tony Mowbray is interviewed after Albion's defeat at Coventry

Tony Mowbray accepts his side’s performance at Coventry City “wasn’t good enough” and “fell below the normal level”.

The Baggies were beaten 2-0 by the Sky Blues at the CBS Arena on Good Friday afternoon.

Jack Rudoni scored an early opener and Matt Grimes then made it 2-0 in the first few minutes of the second, before Callum Styles was dismissed as a result of picking up a second yellow.

The hosts enjoyed plenty of the ball for the majority of the second period and the Baggies, in truth, didn’t look like getting back into the contest.

Speaking after the fixture, Mowbray said: “I think the performance today fell below our normal level. I’m not sure why.

“There are always two teams playing and you have to say Coventry played okay today.

“I’m frustrated. Last Saturday we weren’t at our normal level but we managed to find a way to win. Today we weren’t at our normal level and we’ve lost.

“We’re left very frustrated and very disappointed today. We weren’t good enough. We have to accept it. We’re all disappointed.

“Coventry’s attacking line is a threat. They play in a positive manner and they’ve got some processes.

“I genuinely felt we had the players to give them problems today and I genuinely believed that we could come here and win.

“What I watched in the first-half, we needed to change that. We had no control and we were spending too long defending. We had balls coming into our box and Coventry scored from one of them pretty early on.

“We needed to take more control of the game. When it was a 50/50 game and we weren’t in control, it was too easy in my opinion for them to get in and around our box. They had threats in the box.

“We tried to change that at half-time and then the sending off obviously doesn’t help us. We had an individual error for the second goal just a few minutes before that too.

“That put us right on the backfoot. We can’t change it now. We’re very disappointed and we’re very frustrated.

“We’ve got three games to go and we’ll do our best to win them all.”
