History will be made this weekend as WBA Powerchair will play in the first-ever televised game of powerchair football.
The 2021 FA Disability Cup Finals will be shown live on BT Sport across the weekend of July 17 and July 18, with WBA Powerchair kicking off the weekend's action when they play Aspire PFC in the powerchair football final on Saturday (ko 11am).
The weekend will see St George’s Park host the event, which is the largest competition of its kind in this country, and will feature five disability football finals delivered in partnership with five impairment specific organisations for Powerchair, Blind, Partially Sighted, Cerebral Palsy and Amputee football.
And WBA Powerchair Co-Ordinator, Paul Hunt, is excited by the opportunity the event presents for the sport.
“It's an absolutely fantastic opportunity to showcase the sport of powerchair football to a huge audience across the country and the players deserve huge credit for getting to the final.
"It's been a massively difficult 18 months or so where the sport ground to a complete halt and still hasn’t fully resumed. Hopefully this will be the kickstart we all need to get things moving again”.
"It is fantastic the 2021 event will be going ahead and we cannot wait to cheer on the team in what will be a momentous weekend for disability football and a huge day for WBA Powerchair and the wider disability football community.
"We hope this is a step forward in televising disability football on a more regular basis."
