WBA PFC win West Midlands League title

Albion PFC.

West Bromwich Albion Powerchair Football Club retained their West Midlands Powerchair Regional League title last weekend.

There was just a single point separating Albion from their local rivals Aston Villa rockets going into the last round of fixtures, with Villa the likely league victors due to their game in hand.

But the Baggies cruised to a 3-0 victory in the final game of the Regional League, meaning they reclaimed their title, while getting one over on their local rivals.

Albion are next in action on Saturday, March 1 where they resume their WFA National League campaign.

The Baggies went into the final game of the WMPRL having just beaten Greenback PFC 3-1 in their opener, setting out a title-deciding clash at The Sir Doug Ellis Woodcock Sports Centre.

Both teams began the fixture brightly, fashioning opportunities of their own, but it was the defending champions who struck first. A trademark Dylan Kelsall reverse pass found the perfectly-timed movement of Brad Bates who slotted home past the Villa 'keeper.

The Albion defence held off a couple of dangerous Villa breaks, and after 12 minutes, Kelsall and Bates combined again, the latter guiding an effort past the goalkeeper at the front post to double the advantage.

Albion PFC lift the regional title.

The game was put to bed moments later when Bates scored his third of the game with a powerful reverse spin strike that split the defender and the goalkeeper.

At 3-0 and just minutes into the league title decider, Albion started to take the pace out of the game.

Villa pushed hard in the second half to try and find a way back into the tie, but the Baggies were solid in their defence and cruised home to an impressive 3-0 victory, securing the first piece of silverware for the season.

The team are back in action this weekend for the third round of WFA Premier League fixtures as they look to build on their fine start to the National League.

A huge congratulations on your triumph, Baggies!
