'We've made some great additions' | Hannah George

Albion Women captain Hannah George admits she’s ‘finding her feet’ in a new position following their 1-1 draw against Liverpool Feds in their season opener.

The Baggies took the lead away at Jericho Lane through Fran Orthodoxou’s flicked header but were forced to settle for a point as Emma Johnson rifled an effort into the bottom corner just 10 minutes from time.

George was tasked with playing on the left-hand side of a back three in a physical encounter on Merseyside, a new challenge that the skipper relished.

She said: “We've been giving that position a go for a few games in pre-season. I feel like I’m finding my feet in that role and I’m starting to enjoy it.

“I definitely enjoy the competitive side, especially a physical battle. Liverpool Feds bring that on the pitch and I think we competed well.

“We could have been better in that battle. I think there are lots of things that we can improve on.

“Being the first game of the season, this ground's tough to come away to. Especially the first game of the season, it's always been a close game between the two of us so a point is good for us here.”

The first game of Albion’s FA WNL Northern Premier Division campaign saw Ali Miller, Marli Rhodes-Andrews, Rubie Harris and Ellie May make their Baggies debuts and George has seen a new wave of optimism following these additions.

She said: “I think we’ve made some great additions in pre-season and I think they've gelled quite well. That's shown in training but now it's important that we can put that out on the pitch.

“As a group again, there’s lots of things to improve on which we’re going to work hard on throughout the season. We’re looking forward to being back at home and working hard to getting those much-needed three points next week.

“We hope to see as many fans there as possible. I think the girls are all looking forward to getting out onto that pitch at Redditch.”

Albion Women are next in action on Sunday, August 25, when they host Halifax Women at the Valley Stadium in Redditch.
