Today is the funeral of much-loved former WBA FC Club Secretary, Dr. John Evans. Foundation Director Rob Lake will attend and pay his respects on behalf of all at The Albion Foundation.
“On behalf of everyone at The Albion Foundation, I would like to send our deepest sympathies to the family of Dr. John Evans. Dr. John was instrumental in the development of what was then known as West Bromwich Albion FC Community Programme and has become The Albion Foundation.
In his role as WBA FC Club Secretary, he played an integral role as an early trustee and served in this capacity until November 2013.
I was honoured to get to know Dr. John when I came to West Brom in 2008, and he provided me with great insight and knowledge about the Football Club, the region, and the history of the charity. Everyone who met Dr John would call him a “true gentleman” who had time for everyone.
Dr. John was such wise counsel in those early years, and it was a great loss to the Foundation when he resigned. I was very fortunate to continue to meet him on a regular basis, visiting him at his home in Nuneaton. Here he would continue to be a wonderful sounding board and mentor.
Dr. John was a wonderful person, had great integrity, warmth, generous with his time, unparalleled in his knowledge. We thank him for all he did and for who he was. “
