Across the last fortnight, our club partner National Gas has been working on the allotment owned by Hamilton School, who use it for outdoor learning.
National Gas sent multiple employees to the site to lay the foundations for a new shed and install wooden fencing.
Karen Hickin, a teaching assistant at Hamilton School, called the initiative “a turning point” for the school and the experiences it wants to provide the children.
She said: “This allotment will give our pupils the chance to explore the outside world. They can come here with families, and we also support a foodbank, so the children will be growing the food for that.”
The school hopes to expand its building this summer, which will encroach on their school garden, making the allotment that bit more important going forward.
One representative from National Gas said: “We’re trying to do our little small bit, and get it ready and fit for purpose.
“It’s generally really important to give back to the wider community, and this is just one of many excellent initiatives. It’s one we’re happy to support.”
Karen Hicken expressed her thanks on behalf of Hamilton School, saying: “We’re so grateful. I couldn’t put a fence up. It wouldn’t stay up long.
